XP losing settings

Postby riyaaz on Fri Dec 17, 2010 9:05 am

Recently my gf's pc started acting up, the operating system in use is XP service pack 2.
For some reason her profile isn't saving the settings. For eg, files and folders that were stored on the desktop keeps disappearing when the pc is switched off and on again but it stays on the c-drive under documents and settings.

I don't know if this could be a virus or what. She has avast free edition that is up to date and when I did a scan it brought up no viruses.
It's a basic home pc, nothing fancy.

Anybody know what it could be or have a solution?
