plastic bumper mod/repair

Postby u3 on Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:24 am

hi guys

i am attempting to do a mod/repair of the mk3 plastic bumpers.

what i want to know is what is the best way to cut it? i have been using a dremel tool, but the cutting angle is difficult for the small disk sometimes and the plastic melts and then reattaches when it hardens. so its taking forever.

try using an angle grinder, angle grinder works on anything, just use the smaller one...

try different blades cause it will clog up with the plastic...

yeh, the dremel is like a small grinder with the cutting disc on. its also better for fine cuts. i will have to look for other discs then that could do the job.

thanks

Why not try to use a jig saw?

the jig saw has the same affect. the plastic melts and then rejoins just behind the blade. plus with the jig it doesnt cut as nice as with the grinder.

i guess if i cant find a wider disc for the dremel then i will just have to take it slow and easy and use what i can..the other option is a hack saw..but that is so manual..lol.. too much effort..hahah
