Striping paint

Hi guys wots the best method / materials / products to use to strip a shell down to its bare metal
or does nybody have a link where this process is mb documented...lokking to do a DIY jobbie before sending the shell of to a panelbeater

Its called paint stripper! its a liquid... you'll need a few bottles worth for a whole car. Should cost about R20 per bottle at a hardware shop. I used it once to strip the paint off a metal door frame. works wonders. just apply wait till it peels or bubbles off and then wipe with clean cloth and water. It doesn't damage the metal at all. I love this stuff would bet my ride on it! lol :salut: O ya, best part is. it take you less than 2 hours to do the whole car.

Even better part is...makes for a really great High :twisted:

:thumleft: thanks guys....i also found a old mag that has a restoration artical in nd there they say i will need to sand it down with a mid speed buffer and 800 grit paper...do i do this b4 or after using the paint striper?

You'd only use that if there is scratches that needs removing but if theres no scratches then you only use the paint remover

Also remember, the paint stripper will take it down to bare metal. You will wanna get it in teh shop asap for primer or it will start rusting :shock:

With filler I think you need rubbing compound to smothen it out

yip thing is i got screwed with the last PB nd so im just trying to save some cost b4 it goes off for respray so i appreciate the help guys.....so ny other advice u guys can offer will b gr8 :cheers:

TBH, if i were you, i would just sand the whole body down, fill any imperfections and sand till smooth. Them rattle can spray primer and sand smooth. Then send the primered body in for spray. Don't bother stripping the original paint as you will prob get rust issues.

Just an update. I did my mags a few weeks ago. I used paint stripper and then primer-ed once done. paint stripper cost R45 and a blikkie primer is R50. and it worked wonders cause My mags looks crazy insane
