I've sat in FRC/CPI cars and the power delivery is very smooth whereas with STO it's like it comes at you all in one go and leaves you just as quickly as you got it....

@ Popo, I dont think its a good idea for me to answer that question.
What I can tell you is that with STO max power came in late round 6200 rpm, with FRC / ATM / CPI, max power was made at 5500 rpm.

BTW, I went to check today progress on the car and I saw a dyno graph of a GTi that has the same GT28RS turbo and it made 274 kW and it wasnt even properly tuned

shot dude.

Went to check progress on the build after work today, block came back today with the new sleeves installed, IE Conrods also came in today. Assembly of the motor will start tomorrow and by friday / saturday tuning will start. I also ordered Eibach lowering springs as I plan on fitting 19" wheels. Some pics I took today.

You guys are smart enough to figure out what went wrong :D

Yes I wanna see what time it runs at Killarney but u will always see me at a dyno day  the car I wanna take down is the new BMW M5 (staaaaaaaawk), whether I win or lose would just like to see what my car can do, just need to find one willing to go for a run.

Seems to me as if this was a software related issue to cause the car to run lean or too much boost as SWISS commented

may i ask what software you were running at the time when this happened...here most chaps ACTAULLY wanna help instead of post kw's and power :thumright: :thumright: :thumright:

So dude - straight shooter what happened... educate us before someone else makes the same mistake... and you will save us/them 63K worth of heartache :thumright:

And don't worry here no tuner wars will occur most guys aren't even concerned by tuner wars to begine with :thumright:

Something went wrong with Tuner 1's map, caused the car to boost 1.5 bar and pull maximum timing of -12 degrees. Tuner 1 couldnt fix car so I decided to move to Tuner 2. Little did I know the DAMAGE WAS ALREADY DONE.

Tuner 2 loaded a map on the car, after a month or so I logged the car only to see that nothing was solved. Money wasted.
Remember at this stage the engine was already damaged so the map was loaded on a damaged engine.

A friend then suggested Tuner 3, with just the logs sent by email, Tuner 3 solved the map issue, MAF scaling was done incorrectly they stated. Car felt good and logs looked great. Another point I want to emphasise, choose your intake carefully. So finally I go to dyno the car, car made 183 kW, I was  contacted Tuner 3 and replied i shouldnt look at figures but how the car drives on the road.

After a while I chatted a few times to Tuner 4 about the low power figures and he assured me they can get me over 205 kW, so I thought what the heck, let me try Tuner 4 out. Map was loaded car felt very smooth and gearchanges felt like when the car was stock, nice and smooth, little did I know the car actually made stock power as their was no compression due to cracked piston and bent rod. I took the car for a dyno and it made 170 kW. Tuner 4 was convinced something was wrong with the dyno so I left it there, on the road I knew the car was slow.

A week or two after the car broke down

Well tips I can give you guys :

Choose a Tuner that has very good mechanical knowledge about cars, im referring to a mechanic, not someone who fits downpipes, intakes and do turbo upgrades.
Fit a boost guage so that you can keep an eye on boost levels.
From my experience I hope you guys and girls can see even the big names in Cape Town couldnt figure out that the engine was already damaged, they just loaded files.

But the best thing to do with your new cab is, keep it STAAAAAAAAWK !
