Bought the Cabrio May 2009. Being the first car I ever owned, the moment when the keys were handed
over to me by the dealer, getting into it and driving off... was epic.
Condition of car at when purchased: Fresh paint job, Remus exhaust system  , heated springs, 1.8 8v carb feed motor (no smoke or weird noises)

Image

Few days after getting the car, decided to install angel rings in the headlights and VR6 lippie.

Install I.C.E. - indash dvd, Mids, Tweeters and Sub running on a Starsound Amp.
Build the sub box in one day. Bought a second hand de-mister button at 786, installed it as the on/off switch
for the system.

While driving on the R300 on my way to Century City. Heard a rattling noise coming from the
left side in the engine bay, pulled over, smoke and oil everywhere. The damage was a tappet gasket and a hole in the gearbox dif. Got a 2009 FFZ box from SA autoparts for R2000.

Decided to go all out, kinda...

Supaquik done the Front Shocks and Mountings, R1840 in its m##r

and

Bought a full recon 2E, New Clutch kit, New Distributor, New Clutch cable etc etc etc.

it looks like the original wolfsburg gearknob.... but the price made it obvious that its made of copper and with a chrome spray/plating.

It was R180

if it was a fully recon engine - please do not rev your 2e that high ever again for the next 1000kms at least
remember when pistons are inserted 4 the 1st time with ring compressor the pistons dont slide in easliy thats cuz the rings are new against the bore and honing ie friction.

rings will expand under heavy load/high RPM so someting is bound to give in - 2 things could happen : the honing will end up sharpening the rings and then eventually break or the rings will gouge the bore, the white smoke could be the start of either of the 2 ? :pale:

granny shift at 2 - 2.5k rpm for the next 1000kms to allow rings to make signature mark against the honing.
then do oil change to let out all tiny steel/metal shavings (too small to see with eye) -new oil in , off you go :thumright:
