RANT: Power Performance Exhausts - Grassy Park

Postby georgie on Sat Sep 11, 2010 11:36 am

Ok, I never do this RANTing thing, but this time I have to get it out there...

Went to Exclusive for some parts for my car in July. On my way there my original rear box started blowing badly. It was already too late to go to the Exhaust places I knew of so a guy at Exclusive suggested I check PPE Exhausts (Next to Caltex in Klip RD) can help. Went there and spoke to the guy who runs the place, very nice guy, seemed to be very helpful at the time.

Anyways, they ended up replacing the 2 rear boxes, the pipe between the 2 and fitted a tailpiece at a cost of R1100. According to him these were 50mm boxes and piping, which were the correct ones to fit to a VR6 for the sound I wanted. I wanted 57mm which they did not have in stock, but I was desperate so got it done.

After that took the car through to Ferolli for a major service. They then told me this was the worst possible exhaust setup that couldve been done and it was robbing my car of power, and also made it heavier on juice. They also said that they would not fit this size piping and boxes to a 1600, as they were 44mm

Had it checked at 2 different exhaust places after that and they were both shocked to see the quality of the work, and measured the diameter and proved it was 44mm. Who the hell puts 44mm exhaust on a VR6

I called them to discuss this issue but they insisted that they fitted the correct stuff, so basically they werent bothered. All he said was "bring the car in and I will jack it up and show you its right." What would be the point, they would just argue anyways.

Anyways, finally pulled that abortion of an exhaust system off and fitted a full 57mm system, which sounds and performs brilliant!

Sorry to say but Power Performance Exhaust FTL.

I kept the stuff I took off and have the code on the box which confirms its 44mm. I know some people on the forum here know the guy who runs the place, cos he told me he's always at the VR6 hook ups and he did "most of their exhausts"

He is a nice guy, and his service was good, but the job done on my car was pathetic.

Georgie

You only got what you asked for...you wanted your car to be quiet...even though you went and fitted a 57mm in the end.
If you had brought the car back to be checked out, anything that was wrong would have been rectified.

I strongly disagree with above statement...like i said , it would have been rectified, coz at PPE we keep our customers happy.

Glad you at least got sorted out in the end with an exhaust set up though and that you are happy with it.

Did you at any point tell me you were fitting 44mm boxes and pipe to the car? Are you saying that for a quiet system you need to fit a smaller diameter system? I got a 57mm setup and it is quiet, using 3 boxes.

Plus when I phoned you to tell you about what Ferolli said about the car, you said they were talking sh$%t, you put on better quality boxes then other places, etc, I must bring the car there so you can show me its the right setup.

Can you honestly tell me that you recommend 44mm system for a VR6 ???

Stock VR6 Exhaust is (2.25") 57.15mm, so infact, it's right for him to be asking why one would fit a 44mm Exhaust to a VR6.

Thats exactly why all the other places who checked my exhaust was so shocked. They couldnt believe what PPE had done on the car.

roadangel replied once and never again
and if you read his reply, he refers to PPE as "WE", not they. So he has to be involved at the place and he can reply.
